About Dr. Avi Meier

Dr. Meier’s career focuses on comprehensive ophthalmological services and treating all diseases of the eye.

He was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from the University of Maryland’s Scholars’ Program with a B.S. in biochemistry, he attended George Washington University School of Medicine where he earned his M.D. in 2005. He completed his internship at Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital and his residency in ophthalmology in 2009 at Eastern Virginia Medical School. While at EVMS, Dr. Meier earned the honor of chief resident. He also received additional training in diseases of the retina and vitreous.

Dr. Meier is an assistant professor of ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School where he teaches our future ophthalmologists. He also likes to give back to the community by donating time and money to many local charities such as the Virginia Beach SPCA.

A former Eagle Scout and assistant scout master, Dr. Meier loves hiking and camping. In his spare time he is an avid reader, fisherman and beach lover. Dr. Meier has many reasons to smile, including his wife, Samantha, their daughter, Madison, and their two dogs, Moose and Bear.

In addition being named the Best Ophthalmologist on the Peninsula and Southside – Silver Award - in 2015 by Coastal Virginia magazine readers, Dr. Meier also won Best Ophthalmologist by readers of the same publication in 2011, 2013, and 2014.
